Sandpaper – sometimes referred to as sand or emery paper, is a tool for surface processing by grinding.
Abrasive cloth – is used like sandpaper, but a fabric (formerly canvas) is here used as a support material. Abrasive cloth is stronger by a multiple mechanical loads, thus a higher lifetime. This also machine grinding is possible, for example, with a belt sander.
Grain – sandpaper or emery cloth are available in different grain sizes. The number of grain that is usually indicated on the back of the carrier medium, based on the unit mesh, the number of meshes of a Sieber per inch (1 inch = 2.54 cm). The larger the number, the finer the grain size.
